Quill and Inkwell

Writing, indie publishing, and the journey of an author.

Mary K. McAnally

Poetry

A collection of poems born from sparks, that light flames, and ignite fires.

She Writes

She writes the words that rise into her mind,
straight from her soul.

She does not care whether people hate what they see,
make assumptions about her,
or love her for it instead.

The words are her own.
The letters form a connection to the heart,
and only from the heart
can the spark ignite the fire to create.

Create stories of lore,
ghosts of the past,
dark romances,
promises of freedom,
justice, vengeance, mystery, and comedy.

Whatever yearns to be said,
create it.

The soul speaks through words,
longing to escape onto the page,
wanting to be read.

Too often, words are left unsaid
because people are afraid—
afraid to offend,
afraid to be misunderstood.

That fear must end.

Only when we allow the soul to speak through writing
can we find peace, make amends,
learn to communicate,
and build worlds and ideas
for the future to explore.

What a horrible world it would be
if thoughts and stories never challenged our perspectives—
if we lived only in echo chambers of agreement,
choosing comfort over truth
simply to remain mainstream
and fit in.

Break down the walls of safety.
Push the limits.
Challenge your own ideals.
Conform only to truth.
Shatter the narrative.

Build new worlds.
Offer solace.
Offer wrath.

Never stop writing,
because the truth is this:
those words do not merely need to be heard—
they need to be said.

So she writes the words that rise into her mind,
straight from her soul.

She does not care whether people hate what they see,
make assumptions about her,
or love her for it instead.

These words are her own.
The letters form a connection to the heart,
and they need to be said.

Only from the heart
can the spark ignite the fire to create.

Go forth and create.

Create stories of lore,
ghosts of the past,
dark romances,
promises of freedom,
justice, vengeance, mystery, and comedy.

Always create what yearns to spring from your quill—
what has yet to be said.
